The Art of Growing

West Bromich

Mooreland's Allotment Association

TAP worked in partnership with the Mooreland's Allotment Association in West Bromwich. The Art of Growing Project aimed to encourage participation and understanding of the joys of allotment life, producing healthy food and the benefits of the ‘green gym’. Visual art was used to explore and promote the themes and to develop ideas and images that were used to create a piece of public art designed to be a testament to the benefits of working with a range of people from the local community and bringing them together in a positive and creative way. Participants included the allotment members, elderly residents in a local home, a group of boys with learning difficulties and children from the local primary school.

The art workshops were led by professional artists whilst the gardening workshops were led by the very experienced and green fingered allotment members. The artists involved have all since created their own vegetable patches!
