Join

Join – to meet or make two or more things meet and become linked or united.

This project is about joining in and making connections. It explores the tension and the fragility in the process of joining; whether it is an actual physical, visual, written or verbal connection that is made. It explores and questions the expectation of artists to make links between their and other artist’s practices, as a way of validating and contextualizing what they do.

Artists are invited to create work on the them of ‘join’ and to share it with each other and with our audience, who are also invited to join in via traditional and internet networking methods. Images from other Join participants are uploaded to an internet group, are presented anonymously and given equal weighting; no judgments or connections are made upon the work other that by each member of the audience who views it. In turn, this experience is synthesized, used to inform each artists practice and to continue the process of encouraging others to join in.
